Ok... ramped up to 38-0!!! I played SWOS 2020 - Amiga mode (96/97 data)! Was 20-0 at halftime!

This looks like the nearly perfect game to me - congratz 
The theoretically perfect one would probably be a goal every 2 minutes, so 45-0. But kick-offs from CPU are far too often long shots (at least on DOS system) for that to happen. So 38-0 to 40-0/41-0 is probably the highest possible. We'll learn soon I guess

Thanks! Was indeed a nice run and I got pretty excited at halftime (20-0).
Theoretically, in the 45th and 90th minute, you can add an X-amount of goals as long as the CPU does not blast it into your half.
But I'm totally with you, the 40-goal-barrier is the holy grail!

Is it also possible to take Italy vs Once Lobos? Or even a weaker team? VB is "pretty strong" and they play 3-5-2 which is annoying sometimes.
The goal here is to win high, not to win high vs VB, right?

Which tactic would be better for you in this competition? I tried against Once Lobos, but they play 4-4-2... and then you sometimes run into one of the defenders if you do the classic L-goal for industrial scoring. 3-5-2 only has one defender in the middle. I found that easier.

Just did a "match speedrun" in SWOS 2020 (60 FPS) on beginner mode and won 28-0, a fair bit due to that "ref doesnt call it untill they get in your half" magic that occured in the 45th minute for me.
But in the end i found out the actual record table goes by time and not score lol. Which is a tad silly tbh.
40 goals (Atleast on 60 fps) seems kinda insane, but doable if you get enough lucky kick offs and don't fumble your shit.
