I think with more knowledge it would be possible to make a adaptor and don t destroy a controller ;)

Difficult, because you need the interiors. Xbox is checking a platine ID if the controller is copyrighted.
But you can ask your cousin. That should be a real challange for him.

There is no need to destroy the D-Pad on the controller. The adapter can just hang out an inch out of the top.

I converted an X-Arcade stick for use with the Xbox 360 last year and am thinking about adding an Amiga port to it because the stick does not feel right. What do you guys consider to be the best control method? Still trying to figure this game out...

I m using the Right Bumper for shoot\pass\tackle, it s working out alright on the standard controller, also played a few games with the HORI Arcade Stick but I need some practice.

I just hooked up an old atari port to my arcade stick. Here are some pics . There are instructions there too.
