Recommendation for Instant Messenger

Hi there.
Right now I only use Skype for Internet messaging and Dana for #sensible (or website java).
But Skype can not be used as IM on ss.de...
What would you recommend as an IM?
I thought about Psi just for Jabber protocol or Pidgin to have an universal client...
What do you think or which software do you use?

Thanks very much for your post.
I had ICQ installed in the past but I didn t like the commercial stuff and all other things included (games etc.) which you don t really need.

So you think a multi-protocol IM would be good?
I found a list in wikipedia where you can see which IM supports which messenger protocols... so ll I ll have a deeper look at that...

I chode Miranda SE pacjage now.
Not easy to config but working quite well now. And without any installation.
