The problem with JonHare is security for the server.
An IRC-bot is totally insecure and can be abused by third-parties.
We re trying to find an alternative and/or different solution to resurrect Jon. I miss him, too!

Especially true for someone who has no experience of using IRC chat. I don t use IRC at all apart from SWOS.
It is as if he is stalking us everytime we entered in this channel. No offence to the real Jon Hare, this bot is confusing the newcomers and stalking them straight out of the door! ;D
Also it cluttered up the chat window, mixing up the bot greetings and real chat, made it difficult to read the conversation and who s coming in/out clearly. Some greetings are very cheesy.
It is something to consider if you really want to keep the newcomers in the room.

I have to agree with him. When I first entered into this sensible channel, I was greeted by this bot and so I greeted back, only to find out he was a bot! :-[Yesterday a new user told me that a lot of people are bothered by JonHare, our IRC bot, especially by the welcome-message. He also said that this bot is a reason for people to leave the channel. This made me think about this topic for the first time.
