So I can t seem to keep the formation i create to be used in a match.

Yes, save it to file!

Can you edit the formations above or is it only USER ones you can edit?
When I see the layout of the formation after I made changes and save it as you instructed the layout does not alter but stays as another fomation.

USER A-F only, which can be edited!
Layout in match line-up screen stays the same as the tactic you have started to build USER A-F on!
