Joystick Issues!!! was created by tramp
Hi everyone.

Been enjoying SWOS on my PC for over a year now but...... Have gone through 4 joysticks and yet again mine is broken.

Can anyone help? It s not easy.... Here are symptoms

So I have used 4 x joysticks.. 1 USB and 1 Amiga with 3 different adapters. When I change adapter, it works again, so nothing wrong with joystick. It s a USB problem.

I use Windows 7 Professional

Everytime, the joystick works for a few months and then suddenly, stops working. When you plug it in to USB port, a message displays USB Device Not Recognised . This happens on every port and also happens on other PC s I try after it has gone wrong, with the same message.

I have also replaced the joystick in a new laptop (same hard drive). And still the problem occurred. I would swear that it is SWOS online but can t be as no one else has had this problem? I don t think?

Can you help?

Clearly some hardware problem. Has nothing to do with SWOS/software.
Please post pictures of your stuff.
Or, even better, post links from where you bought the adapters!

But how can it be a hardware problem?

I have used

1 x usb joystick
1 x amiga serial joystick with 3 different USB adapters! Different models as well.

They all work for months before failing.

I have also tried 2 different laptops. The only thing that is the same is the hard drive with Windows 7 Pro installed?

He needs to know the specific brand and model names of the adapters, they could be the clue...

Haha. OK these are the specific models...

OK 1st Joystick = Competition Pro USB
Sports Tournament Edition EU Model.
SL-6603-SPORTS-EU
Not sure where this was purchased.

Then I changed to an old Amiga joystick with USB adapter.

Joystick = Quickshot QS-131
Adapter (Not the website I bought it from but here is the product) = www.funstockretro.co.uk/atari-controller-pc-to-usb-adapter
Bought off Ebay from Rough-Curve

I returned the item to Rough-Curve complaining that it didn t work so he sent me another of the same. And eventually the same thing happened to that too.

When I returned the second one to him, he suggested and sent out the following to me:

Mayflash megadrive controller adapter for PC USB
I had to use some software to get it to work properly (Joy2Key) but essentially it worked fine.

All of these worked for about 3 months without a problem and then just fail! They fail as above in my first message and then don t work on any PC. Like I said, It s like the software is blowing the hardware?

Thanks for all your help

No, it s a problem of your hardware (joystick and adapters) for sure.
Competition Pro USB is a really shitty joystick... Adapters may fail, I think you were unlucky.
You can try this one, it should be more durable: www.raphnet-tech.com/products/atari2usb/index.php

Not the best piece of hardware.

Try the one from atchoo s post or this: www.retrousb.com/product_info.php?cPath=21 products_id=70
