Hey there,

as some may know I use an Arcade Stick with the toodles UPCP (2.5) in it.

(I read, Retreiving, also posted here, 2 years ago...)

Anyway:
You have a 15pin Sub-D connector on the stick and there are several possibilities to connect to several Consoles.
When playing online I use the 15pin to USB cable without any issues.

Playing my first offline cup, I noticed unfortunately, that my DB-9 Connector did not really work with the buttons on Amiga. (Stick works fine).
Does someone (esp. Retreiving) have any experiences with that connector?

You can see the pinout here: wolfsoft.de/wordpress/?p=227

I think, the second button (few Amiga games make use of it - SWOS does not) can be the problem, so cutting the blue cable (Button 2) maybe hit the point.... Maybe not - I dunno.

Retri, can you (or se else) help me out, gimme a hint? I read you have been to SensibleDays2009 with your own Board. Did you also use the UPCB in it?

Huh

Soldering a new cable is not a problem for me....btw...

Can you please post a picture of your stick wiring job? The 2nd button generally works fine as long as it s wired properly and doesn t affect the main Fire button while playing SWOS (I got around testing this a few months back when I made a 2 buttons, Amiga-only stick for a customer).

Anyhow, you don t need to go through Toodles PCB to make your stick work on Amiga, just figure out the pinout and then solder the wires straight to the stick/buttons microswitches contacts, it ll work fine as long as you don t plug both cords (Amiga DB9 and whatever happens to be attached to the UPCB at the time) in simultaneously (doesn t matter if you got the UPCB wires already soldered on the contacts, they won t interfere).

I actually got two cables coming out of my Sensi-stick , the USB one for PS3/PC and the DB9 for Amiga, works like a charm (although I use a Toodles Chtuhlu PCB in my stick, they were designed to do basically the same thing tho, the UPCB just gives you broader compatibility).

EDIT: couldn t attend SensiDays 2009 due to RL getting in the way at the very last moment, I ve recently used my stick in an offline tournament/meeting (in fact it was just mt653 and Lemonhead coming over to play some SWOS on Amiga @ my place hehe :D ) and use it pretty often to play on Amiga anyway.

Thx for your reply Retrieving.

Here are the pix. So I have to drill a new hole with a lets say Sub-D 9pin or 15 pin Connector and connect the wires directly to my prefered firebutton (optional the 2nd Firebutton too) and the stick, is that right so?

Do you have a link to a layout plan? I am not very familiar in connecting sticks and buttons...

Just rip a cord off of an old DB9 joystick, take note of the wiring scheme (which wire is fire, which is right, etc.), cut an end (hint: not the one with the plug), drill a hole in your stick, get the aforementioned cord through it and then connect the wires to the 4 joystick microswitches (directions) and to your preferred Fire button (both inputs and ground contacts, 1 each for every microswitch although you re mounting what seems to be a Sanwa JLF, either original or a knockoff cause I cannot recognize the buttons, that may have a wires harness thing which groups together all of the contacts in a white plastic encasing, supposedly to make wiring easier and solder-less...can t really tell from the pictures tho so you ll have to figure that one out).

Anyhow, something like this (black wire = ground):

If you don t have an old Amiga-era joystick laying around you can purchase a DB9 cable and a 9pins connector like the ones pictured below for cheap at any electronic stuff shop, just follow this pinout for the wiring afterward: www.allpinouts.org/index.php/Mouse/Joystick_Amiga_9_pin

hope it helps.

EDIT: just looked at your pics again and I see 5 wires coming off of your joystick? 4 are the directions and the black one should be the ground...just backtrack the wires up to the UPCB and you ll find out which is which.
