Hi ElMichaJ!

Thank you for supporting our Kickstarter. It means a lot that people like our game.

Pixel Soccer is not meant to be a clone or rip-off of sensible soccer. Our art style is very different to sensible soccer! Its more what sensible soccer might have been if it was made today.

Multiplayer/Online gaming is one of our stretch goals! Thanks for the offer of community help, i hope we get to that stage on our kickstarter.

Yeah, I agree wholeheartedly. The players look like they re standing still a lot of the time, and the corners are a mess of players everywhere. But you re right, there s scope for a good game here :)

Hi All,

Apologies for the lack of posts. Been busy making the game :)
When we had the idea to make a pixel art football game we didn t realise just how much work was involved.
After we didn t get funded on kickstarter it got even harder to find the time to work on Pixel Soccer.

But we are now close to a playable match engine!
And we will now post here regularly to keep you all up to date.

We do a video each month of how the game is progressing.

Hey man.. Just checked the latest video. Nice progress so far. The game speed seems to be quite good. I do have a few suggestions for the visuals:

- Make the ball size bigger. Perhaps slightly smaller than the heads or something inbetween current ball size and the head sizes. :)
- Running animation looks a little to much like they are surfing on the pitch or sliding on ice. I don t know if you can make arms or back move more. It could also be the pitch which is too one sided color. IE Swos have similar running animation like yours, but the pitches have small repeated pixel patterns but still in 2-3 colors or more. Imo it helps the simple animtions work better. Don t know how else to explain it. I hope you understand.
- Make the goalkeepers turn left or right in a diagonal direction (or even horizontal) when the ball is in either of the sides depending on the ball position. IE when the ball further to the sides than the goal, they turn their heads and or adjust their position in the goal.
- When the players run downwards on the pitch the ball should be closer to the player.

Just my opinion, but nice work so far. I like it!

Hi djowger,

Glad you like the progress we are making!

-your the first person to say the ball is too small!! as its a cosmetic fix we will hold off until we can get more feedback. it doesn t take much work to change the ball size so its something we can do later.

-could definitely try changing the animation speed, they do look like they glide too much. plan is to later add grass particles to give some point of reference for the movement. i think i know what you mean, the pitch color is very smooth, you would expect some sort of gradient or roughness to give some point of reference.

-goalkeeper facing the ball makes sense, will look into doing that.

-yeah the ball is too far ahead of the player when running in the downward direction. i think there is a bug with the collision code we are looking into which will help with that when fixed.

In short...
- New control system added updating existing controls like slide tackle, header, pass and shoot
- 1-2/return pass added
- key pass/through ball added
- order team-mate to close down the ball added
- order goalie to come rushing out added

Next month we will be refining/testing/reworking these controls in the match engine and fixing any bugs that come up. (Plus changes suggested in this thread)
