What about loan, trial and reserve players?

Hi guys,

I ve been playing Sensible World of Soccer 96/97 for 14 years now, and one thing that bothers me all the time is that trial, loan and reserve players in the game usually don t grow higher in value than 5k; no matter how much you score with them. Is there maybe some kind of trick to make sure those players will get higher in their value and make them better players? I would really love to know that! Been searching for a while now on this forum, but haven t seen any post like this.

Sure hope you can help!

Cheers.

They all have a hidden value, and about 10% of player it is more than 5k. 5k is the real zero :) The hidden value is corresponding with your avarage palyer s value I guess, but random.

If they start with any value bigger than 5k, then they value will grow in direction of theit hidden value.

(You won t get value for LOAN player ever, as they are not your players. TRIALs will become RES, if you let them play in your matches, so only RES players can have any value (5k, or real value).

So what you re saying is that only 10% of the reserve players will grow above 5k, and when a player won t reach higher than that, he will never become above 5k?

And is there no way to control or check if one of those players is bound to become better?

If you see 5k after RES, it is 0, forever. If you see 20k or 90k or any not 5k value after RES, it is a player with not 0 skills. And circa 10% of the players (I have never counted them) will be shown not 5k after their RES status.

Although it doesn t always work that way, you can look for players with unusual top3 skills, like a defender with F or V, or attackers with T or P. It will mean that your player will be at least better than 0 in that specific skill and might be even better at others. Of course, there are times where you get a half-decent winger that really is speedy with ball control and some passing or tackling skills.

Well known amongst those that are aware are the RB players that end up being 2.25M/4.5M or thereabouts of worth. They hop along every once in a while and the game usually gives it away by giving green ticks if you put that player over your normal starter (and providing your normal starter isn t a top-notch RB to begin with ;)).

Loan players are always zero as far as I know. The game only gives you loan players if you have some sort of crisis and can t put a team out. It also gives you a loan keeper if you ve got only one goalkeeper (it s impossible for your keeper to get injured or sent off if you actually play all your matches, therefore there is no need for the substitute goalkeeper - he can be sold for free money. He can only get injured when you simulate games straight to result ).

Trial and reserve players though, as MIJB#19 has alluded to, you can check how good they are on the squad screen by putting them in the first team for a similar player in the same position. The game will show you what it thinks of the change, so you will get a big X if they re shit, and now and then you ll get a big TICK meaning they re better than the player you already have in that position. Or even a small X meaning they re not *much* worse and might be worth some money if you play them for a while then sell them.

The very first thing I do when I start a career is use this method to check all my reserve players. I personally get rid of (transfer list then free transfer) the crap ones immediately so they don t clog up my squad screen, and then I play with any good ones so that their value rises to its true value.

The best reserve player I ever had was a Scottish right-back who rose to £9m.

One sidenote: the game generally not very wise useing ticks ans Xs, so many times a very good player will get x, or huge X.

I always play all my TRIAL and RES players (nice challange to start a season with all RES, or using RES keeper in high level) until they get value. 5k - gotta go. All others will stay until they reach their limits (with some special tactics there is almost no limit, but I have never used Playa s valuebooster tac.)

It s pretty wise in my experience if you know your tactics well and are placing people appropriately for the displayed skills.

It won t respond well if you put a great attacking midfielder with no tackling ability in the most defensive midfield position for example, even though the positions match up (M = M).

Ah yes. that does sound like a challenge to (although not so much fun for those players :D) to retire free transfer your entire squad (maybe selling the 6 most valuable ones and start fresh with just reserves/trials and the occasional loaners. :D

Usually those 4.5M RB, have Ball Control, Tackling and Speed as the three top skills, so be sure to keep an eye when you have a RB trial with CTS, STC or TCS as skill initials.
